A creative journal attesting to the profound personal impact of that first painting lesson beneath the big old mulberry tree ... stubby 3 year-old toes squelching into rotten purple fruit; pink tongue curled out with the effort of forging a wet, sticky, paint masterpiece. African storm clouds billowing just above.
I am fascinated by trompe l'oeil (French for "trick the eye"). Isn't it amazing how a flat wall can be transformed with mere paint (and loads of talent) in such a way that you really do believe that what you are seeing is real?
Can you guess which elements in the above images are true and which are false??
"Both witty and serious, trompe l'oeil is a game artists play with spectators to raise questions about the nature of art and perception" - The National Gallery of Art
Hello! Here's a bit about me: I am a 21 year old artist/designer living in Perth, Western Australia (born in Zimbabwe), who has a penchant for collecting old treasures/antiques and anything beautiful that makes my heart sing! I studied Costume and Theatre Design for a year at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) before setting out to complete a Bachelor of Business ... my dream is to combine these artistic and Business skills and own a shop that sells the trinkets and treasures I so love to hoard! This blog is an 'online journal' of the many things that inspire me, as well as a record of some of my own artistic endeavours. Enjoy!
